Are you someone who has always wanted to learn to knit, and are finally ready to take the plunge? Do you have a child or a grandchild who would like to learn to knit, and you are not comfortable teaching them yourself?
Are you beginner knitter who is looking for a refresher, or to take your knitting to the next level by learning a specific technique like “the magic loop” or a particular type of cast-on or cast-off?
A Great Yarn provides one-on-one classes to deal with all of the above, taught by an experienced (and very patient) knitter. We prefer the one-on-one approach because it allows us to tailor instruction to meet your individual needs. One-on-one classes also make sure that students will not be intimidated by other participants who might pick up something up faster than they do.
Classes are offered from 9-10 am (before the shop opens) or 5-6 pm (after the shop closes), when things are quiet, and we can give you our full attention.

We conduct knitting and crocheting workshops in the Fall and Winter to teach particular skills, such as knitting socks and finishing projects. Our workshops are taught as a single, five-hour session on Saturdays, and limited to six participants.
Due to the coronavirus, all planned Workshops are currently on hold.
Knitting Help Desk
Even the best knitters need assistance now and then. And every knitter has experienced the pattern with the poorly written directions, or the “sweater from hell.” The staff at A Great Yarn can help every knitter – the beginner, the intermediate and the expert – with their knitting problems, big or small. And if we can’t help, we’ll find someone who can.
The best way to address your knitting or crocheting problems is to visit A Great Yarn during our “HELP DESK” hours, which are Tuesday and Friday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
Because of the pandemic, and the need to maintain social distancing, we are asking anyone needing help to sign up before coming in to the shop.
The link will take you to our HELP DESK sign-up page. You will be asked to pick a time when you would like to come in on Tuesday or Friday afternoon. Your HELP DESK session will last from either 1:00 pm to 2:50 pm, or from 3:00 pm to 4:50 pm. (We can’t do a full two hours since we need 10 minutes to sanitize between sessions.) Sessions will be limited to 3 participants to make sure we are able to maintain social distancing.
There is no charge for participating in one of our HELP Desk sessions, and you are not required to use our yarn or products. We simply want to help you achieve success with your project.
